Listened to David Lichman audio "Are we too tough on horses?"
My thoughts: yes we want to use the most gentle, polite but effective way to teach. The goal of teaching is to assist them in having a happier life tomorrow. May have to stay with some thing even though it is not perceived as pleasant to the horse as releasing too soon causes problems of not achieving the result, delaying and dragging out the process or just causing confusion and distrust.
So what does it take to be effective?
1. a clear plan of what, how and why
2. knowing when to release (and not to release the pressure) and timing
3. allow the dwell, process and lick and chew time
4. approach is driven by horsenality: introverts go slow, consistency vs variety, match plua 4ounces and recognizing the play and game on.
